The Farish Street Community of Shalom is a non-profit community development corporation that seeks to improve the quality of life for people primarily in the Historic Farish Street District. We strive to provide an oasis of hope for people to live and grow in harmony.
Our organization has three main areas of focus: building community relationships between major stakeholders of the Historic Farish Street District, emphasizing
and creating programs which promote health and wellness among members of the Historic Farish Street District and to promote economic development within the Historic Farish Street District. We believe that health encompasses spiritual, physical, mental, and environmental aspects of an individual. We believe that health education and wellness must be addressed from an intervention perspective as well as problem driven. Through our Health and Wellness initiative, we currently sponsor Shalom: A Day of Health and Wellness which includes a 5K Run/Walk, community prayer breakfast and health fair and screenings. This annual event focuses on intervention and maintenance. It is the first step in accomplishing our goal of establishing a health clinic in the district within the next five years.
