The Farish Street Community of Shalom will host its 4th Annual Shalom: A Day of Health & Wellness on Saturday, October 20, 2012. The day will begin with a 5K Run/Walk and 1 mile Fun Run to promote the health and wellness of Jackson residents in a fun and colorful way. At each kilometer of the race participants will run through a colored powder frenzy to end the race as a beautiful rainbow. This non-competitive race will end in line dancing and an
explosion of color madness. At the end of the race, each participant will be given a baggie of color powder to sprinkle on themselves and/or friends to ensure the desired rainbow effect!
PRE-REGISTRATION is $20. RACE DAY REGISTRATION is $30.

PACKET PICKUP
All pre-registered participants may pickup their race packet on Friday, October 19 at Central United Methodist Church's Family Life Center, 517 N. Farish Street, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Race packets will also be available on race day beginning at 8:00 am. Each packet will include a Shalom 5k tshirt, race bib, Shalom informational and coupons to local businesses.
RACE DAY ATTIRE
The color powder shows up best on a blank canvas, so we ask that you either wear your Shalom 5k tshirt or a WHITE tshirt. To make it simple, wear a WHITE tshirt. Or you can wear a WHITE tshirt, but most folks will wear a WHITE tshirt. Feel free to make this as fun as possible by being creative with your attire. And don't forget to wear a WHITE tshirt.
COURSE
The course will take you through Downtown Jackson and end at Farish Green in the Entertainment District of the Historical Farish Street District (behind MC School of Law). At each kilometer race participants will run through a colored powder frenzy and have color thrown all over them! Water stations are strategically placed throughout the course for your refreshment.
COLOR POWDER
The powder that will be thrown at each kilometer is a safe non-toxic cornstarch and food dye combination. Experience has shown that it will sting your eyes if it gets in it, so for safety reasons, please wear protective eyewear.
VOLUNTEERS
If you'd like to volunteer for this race, please contact Michelle Henry at 601.355.7858. All volunteers are asked to be at Central United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 18, 6:00 pm, for packet preparation, powder packaging and pizza (try saying that 3 times fast) and on Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 am. Your support of this event makes it all possible, so we thank you!
AWARDS
In our efforts to promote good health and overall wellness, we encourage crawlers, walkers, and marathon runners to gather up ALL family members and join us. Therefore the Shalom 5K Run/Walk and 1 mile Fun Run is a non-competitive race. Just to keep it interesting, we will offer awards to the FIRST MALE AND FEMALE TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE.
FESTIVAL
To continue our efforts to promote good health and overall wellness, the Farish Street Community of Shalom will host a kid-friendly festival immediately following the race at Farish Park. We will have a children's fun zone, musical entertainment and plenty of vendors. All food vendors have agreed to sell all items for $5 and under.
